The classic French opera hones in the title scholar as he decides to trade his soul for eternal youth - to disastrous consequences. Amy Lane returns in the director's chair, following last season's sold-out and eye-popping production of Don Giovanni. Here, Faust's mortality haunts him in sets that effortlessly blend the scientific and supernatural, with trees that nod to the human respiratory system and a checkerboard floor that underlines the devilish cat and mouse game in play.
